Ben and I did a lot of kayaking over the weekend and pushed ourselves more than we have thus far. It was a lot of fun as always and we got to see plenty of interesting sights that can only truly be appreciated if seen in person.
MONIE CREEK

Saturday we went to Monie Creek in Princess Anne; launching from the end of Drawbridge road. The wind was roughly 20mph that day and we were heading into it for a good part of the trip. Thankfully there was no tide coming in or out at the time or that would have made it that much more difficult. We visited several little "guts" on the right side of the creek and saw 3 deer on the left side about 1/4 of the way into our trip. As we came around a sharp right bend, the wind took us quickly down to the marshlands where we almost got a little stuck, but were able to force ourselves out of it. It was at that point that we decided not to go any further down the creek, but turn around instead and start heading back.
On the way back, we checked out another gut that was now on the right side of us, and just about where we'd seen the deer earlier. It wasn't the most beautiful site I'd seen, but it was certainly interesting; especially with all the twists and turns with which I had no difficulty navigating through. We found this place that was a pretty wooded area that looked like a nice place to stop and rest, so we got out of our kayaks and checked it out while eating the lunch we'd packed for ourselves. It was here, I'd found the turtle shell (as seen in the pics from this trip). Ben and I also think this looks like it would be a great place to possibly camp overnight after kayaking out to it.
After lunch, as we headed back to the launch site, we saw a bald eagle flying right overhead, and then dealt with the tide AND the wind as we finished our trip back. (total time: 3 hrs)
JANES ISLAND

Sunday, Ben and I went Kayaking at Janes Island in Crisfield as we'd done several times before. We started out by launching at the boat docks in the park, and headed straight across. We took a right into the second gut and followed that all the way back (staying to the right at the fork) into a shallow "pool" area which can only be reached at high tide. (area past top of map - sorry) While relaxing and floating around in the secluded pool, we decided to have lunch there since it was so beautiful/serene/relaxing/indescribable. Once we realized that the water was starting to go down a bit, we headed back the way we'd come so that we would not be stuckback there the rest of the afternoon. Out of the gut, we continued up and took the next left to take the "blue" trail across to the main waterway.
After staying to the left on the blue trail and making a left around the "point" (seen on the map), we decided to check out a small beach. There we beached ourselves to look around (where we found tons of trash) and sit on the beach to relax for a while before finally heading back to the launch point to return home.
(Total time: 3.75 hrs)
